Summer Camp
2010 Summer Camp
The J. T. Locke Summer Camp serves low-income and Title I (those receiving free or reduced lunch) families. The camp is a summer program of the J. T. Locke Resource Center a comprehensive family resource center serving Raleigh residences. As part of the program the J. T. Locke Resource Center offers an eight-week free summer camp for youth ages 4 through 17.
Academics
The J. T. Locke Summer Camp is a fun filled camp that provides academic enrichment to keep the youth minds engaged. One to two hours of academics will be provided each day of camp. Youth that may have difficulty in a subject can receive additional help during the summer camp.
Activities
The youth will have a fun filled summer with outside recreational activities (volley ball, basketball, soccer, baseball etc). Other activities include weekly swimming, movies and field trips to various museums and events.
Parent Involvement
J. T. Locke has partnered with Life Strategies, as part of the summer program, to involve parents in the growth of their children. Parents will volunteer three one-hour sessions during the eight-weeks of summer camp to enhance their parenting skills. It has been said, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Parents face many challenges in today’s society while raising children. The Life Strategies Solutions Parent Empowerment Program is designed to give parents effective tools to build good home management skills while developing a meaningful relationship with their children.
