Summer camp information
The J. T. Locke Summer Camp serves low-income families. The camp is a summer program of the J. T. Locke Resource Center a comprehensive family resource center serving Raleigh residences. As part of the program the J. T. Locke Resource Center offers an eight-week free summer camp for youth ages 4 through 17.
Academics
The J. T. Locke Summer Camp is a fun filled camp that provides academic enrichment to keep the youth minds engaged. One to two hours of academics will be provided each day of camp. Youth that may have difficulty in a subject can receive additional help during the summer camp.
Activities
The youth will have a fun filled summer with outside recreational activities (volley ball, basketball, soccer, baseball etc). Other activities include weekly swimming, movies and field trips to various museums and events.
Parent Involvement
J. T. Locke requires involvement of parents in the growth of their children. Parents will volunteer three one-hour sessions during the eight-weeks of summer camp. It has been said, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Parents face many challenges in today’s society while raising children and we all need to be involved in ensuring that I children have every opportunity to succeed in society. Parents volunteering allows the parents to see their children in a different setting and encourages their children that the parent is concerned about what the child is doing.
