At the Westover United Methodist Church
Beary Special Day Care will provide day care services for three (3) and four (4) year olds at Westover United Methodist Church. The day care will operate from 7:00 am until 6:00 pm. Monday through Friday, beginning in late January 2012.
The Center will offer a nurturing, safe environment that is centered on the needs of each individual child. Since each child grows and develops at this or her own pace, activities are appropriate for each child’s stage and rate of development.
Some of the beliefs associated with this approach to early childhood education are:
Every child has the right to feel good about him or herself. Self-worth of each child is the primary focus on many activities and methods of interaction with staff. Preschoolers learn confidence and self-discipline.
Children learn by doing. More specifically, play is their work and learning is best accomplished through discovery. Classrooms therefore encourage an approach to learning that takes advantage of a child’s curiosity and earners to learn.
Interest centers, including art, blocks, dramatic play, books, music, science, small motor activities, etc. foster self-guided learning and teach-assisted practice.
Children learn from interactions with other people. Te environment is designed to encourage children to observe other children working, to work with other children, and to work individually.
